Company profile
Following an extensive option appraisal process, the tenants of Derwentside District Council voted in favour of transferring the housing stock to a new registered social landlord (RSL), Derwentside Homes Ltd. Derwentside Homes was established in December 2006 and owns and manages around 7,000 properties throughout the district of Derwentside.
We are based in the North West of County Durham. Most people live in and around the main towns of Consett and Stanley. The rest of the population live in the smaller villages throughout the more rural areas. The area used to depend on coal mining and the steel industry, but both industries finally closed in 1980. The population of Derwentside, as measured in the 2001 Census, was 85,074.

Derwentside District Council owned the housing stock until 4th December 2006. In October 2005, 78% of tenants voted in favour of stock transfer and set in motion a process. The terms on which they were consulted are set out in the Council’s consultation documents. These documents contained a series of promises to our customers, and our progress in delivering these promises will be regularly updated in the web site.
