Bogus callers

Bogus callersBogus callers use a variety of stories to enter people’s homes under false pretences, often in order to commit a burglary.

A bogus caller may pose as an official caller from a local authority or utility company and give a plausible reason for needing to enter your home, for example they may pose as a repair operative needing to make an urgent repair, or a sales representative offering bargain products.

However once in the home they often use distraction tactics to steal possessions or pressurise people into handing over large sums of money.

To keep yourself and other residents safe always remember:

  • An official caller would very rarely make a house call without making an appointment
  • If there is an repair to be done to the property you will have been notified in advance by Derwentside Homes
  • Derwentside Homes employees will always carry identification cards
  • Don’t be pressurised into letting anybody into the building unless you are certain they are genuine and can provide identification

If you believe that a bogus caller is trying to get into the building or your home don’t hesitate to contact Derwentside Homes on 08007839295 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
