Derwentside Homes signs up to Respect Standard

Derwentside Homes are taking a 'firm but fair' approach to anti-social behaviour and persistent offenders have been warned they have met their match in Derwentside thanks to a tough response from the Neighbourhood Services Team.

The team has made great strides in addressing tenants' concerns by working with communities to make them safer and stronger. A confidential hotline (01207 639503) to report anti-social behaviour has been set up and is manned by Derwentside Homes' staff. Neighbourhood Services also supports victims and witnesses who are to give evidence in court. This hotline is only manned during normal office hours. Messages can be left and a officer will call you back at a convenient time, which suits you.

Shelagh McGinn Head of Housing Services said 'In signing up to the Respect Standard Derwentside Homes is showing that it is making a visible commitment to residents and other interested parties. We are committed to doing all we reasonably can to provide good services to tackle anti-social behaviour and create a culture of respect.'

The importance of strong housing management in tackling anti-social behaviour in creating a community culture of respect is at the centre of a new Government 'Standard' aimed at council and housing association landlords.

The Respect Standard for Housing Management, outlines the core components essential to delivering an effective response to anti-social behaviour and building stronger communities, such as accountability, leadership, giving greater resident empowerment, and supporting community efforts at tackling anti-social behaviour.
