Help with your Rent and Council Tax Payments
Each year thousands of ££££’s of Housing and Council Tax benefit go unclaimed!
Whether you are in work, unemployed or retired, benefit is available to help you pay your rent and council tax. If you are on a low income and have less than £16,000 in savings you may qualify for help.
The amount of benefit you get will depend on:
- The amount of rent you pay
- The amount of council tax you pay
- The needs of your family
- Your income
- Your savings
- The people who live with you
Check to see whether you would qualify and make a claim using our online calculator on Durham County Council's website: www.durham.gov.uk/benefits
Alternatively, telephone The Right Benefit Team on 0191 3872267 or call into your local council office.
Even if you have claimed before and did not qualify it may be worth reapplying as the rules to calculate benefit often change.
