What to do if you think there might be a gas leak or notice signs of carbon monoxide
Act quickly and take the following safety steps:
- Open all doors and windows to ventilate the room. Get fresh air immediately
- Do not smoke, use matches, or operate electrical switches
- Switch off the appliance and do not reuse until it has been checked by a Gas Safe registered engineer
- Shut off the gas supply at the mains if possible
- Call the National Gas Emergency Service on Freephone 0800 111 999. Northern Gas Networks will deal with any report of a gas escape free of charge within four hours of the call, they are currently the emergency service provider.
