What type of jobs does the handy van scheme include?

Handy VanWhere required, tenants will supply the materials and the handy van service will help with the following jobs:

  • Shelving; 
  • Curtain rails; 
  • Grab rails; 
  • Stair rails; 
  • Ease sticking doors/windows; 
  • Minor repairs, adjustments to kitchen unit doors; 
  • Blinds;
  • Changing light bulbs/lamps; 
  • Tap washers; 
  • Plugs and chains; 
  • Sealant around baths/sinks; 
  • Minor repairs to fences and gates for safety reasons; 
  • Adjustments to internal doors; 
  • Clothes posts/hooks; 
  • Security measures including window locks, door chains and spy holes; 
  • Changing locks; 
  • Fitting stair gates and draught proofing; 
  • Changing smoke alarm batteries; 
  • Bleeding radiators.

These lists are not exhaustive and all works will be undertaken at the discretion of Derwentside Homes who reserve the right not to undertake works deemed inappropriate to the scheme, or which impact upon health and safety.
