Greengates House
Derwentside Homes new headquarters is Greengates House which is in Greencroft, near Stanley. The building, which brings all Derwentside Homes staff under one roof for the first time, was designed to be environmentally friendly, with such features as a sedum roof, high insulation and low water usage sanitary fittings.
The building opened on Monday 17th August 2009 and houses the workforce of over 200 employees. Greengates provides a central point for our tenants and PC terminals are available to access the Internet.
Shelagh McGinn, Head of Housing Services, came up with the name Greengates House as it embodies the local history of the area. Shelagh explained:
“Before he was married, my Dad lived in Catchgate and often talked about the walks his family and friends took. One of his favourite walks was to “the green gates and back” and when I mentioned where the new office was going to be built, he confirmed the green gates were on the road leading to Maiden Law.”
