The Enterprise Fund
Derwentside Homes Enterprise Fund was set up in May 2010 and offers small businesses and up-and-coming entrepreneurs the opportunity to apply for a share of a £50,000 grant to help kick start their business venture.
To mark the launch of the Enterprise Fund Derwentside Homes has linked up with a local artist in creating a unique art exhibition. Graham Cleland, 28, has been chasing his dreams by working alongside young people to convert an empty property owned by Derwentside Homes into an art exhibition.
Graham spent several weeks decorating a semi detached house in Mendip Terrace in South Stanley with colourful murals depicting people’s dreams and aspirations.

Graham is a firm believer in following your dreams having left school with just one GCSE. He went on to study an GNVQ and an A Level in advanced art at New College Durham, and then an HND at Newcastle College before starting The Real Graffiti company.
Although the Real Graffiti company was launched in 2004, before the Enterprise Fund was created, Derwentside Homes is keen to assist other young entrepreneurs like Graham and use him as an example of how the scheme can work.
People can access funding straight away and interest is paid monthly, with all loans repaid at the end of the third year.
