Gardening service

Garden Service Derwentside Homes and East Durham Partnership have set up a social enterprise scheme to support people without a job who can access new skills, training, and qualifications and the scheme will help with their progression back into work. Part of the scheme involves a gardening service provided at a reasonable cost .

In addition, the scheme involves painting, decorating, and DIY jobs, initially available to any residents in the Moorside area who may need this type of help. A charge to cover the costs of the service will be made and the service will be expanded to other areas following appraisal.

Scope of Service

The service is designed to be a basic maintenance and tidy up service and includes:
  • Cut, strim and collect grass from lawned areas
  • Strim and spray weeds in boarders and paths
  • Cut hedges
  • Prune shrubs
  • Litter pick
  • Sweep and tidy site

Though the pruning of hedges and shrubs is included within the service it is estimated that this work is only carried out occasionally and not on every visit to the property. Some pruning of hedges and shrubs can also be included in the winter programme.

Works NOT included in the service:

  • Digging and cultivation of borders
  • Removal of shrubs and trees
  • Pruning trees
  • Landscaping, fencing and paving
  • Planting shrubs or plants
  • Removal of rubbish not associated with garden maintenance

Frequency of service

During growing season it is estimated that the gardeners will call on a 3 to 4 weekly cycle, depending on weather etc. During the off-season gardeners will call less frequently and carry out minor additional works identified as part of the winter programme.
