Housing Benefit Non-Dependant Deductions From April 2012
If you get Housing Benefit and have someone aged over 18 years old who is not your partner, joint tenant or a boarder who is living with you, this could be:
- A grown up son or daughter
- A friend
- A parent
- Another relative who lives with you
Then your Housing Benefit is usually reduced by a certain amount each week. This is called a non dependant deduction and is based on the income of the non dependant
Please note that no non dependant deduction applies if:
- The non dependant is under 18
Or if you or your partner are getting:
- Disability Living Allowance (care)
- Attendance Allowance
- Registered blind
From April 2012 the rates of the non dependant deduction have changed
