Rent

RentDerwentside Homes is committed to giving you the best possible service. To do this, we need to ensure that all tenants pay their rent on time so we can afford the services and improvements their homes need.

We want to make paying your rent and other housing charges as easy as possible by giving you a range of payment methods to choose from. Any rent and charges due is added to your account on a weekly basis.

Your rent must be paid weekly in advance or by arrangement, monthly/ fortnightly in advance.

Rent is payable over 48 weeks with 4 rent free weeks per year. In 2012 the rent free weeks are the weeks beginning:

2nd April 2012

2nd July 2012

24th December 2012

31st December 2012

You will receive a regular rent statement and will be informed at the beginning of each new financial year of any changes in the amount of rent due.

This may change if you are eligible for Housing Benefit and you will be informed by the Council in writing as to what this will be once your claim has been assessed.

We recognise that sometimes tenants will experience genuine financial problems and we are committed to working with tenants to help them in these circumstances. Any tenant experiencing difficulties paying their rent should contact Derwentside Homes immediately to discuss the matter on freephone 0800 783 9295. Further information and useful telephone numbers can be found on the back of your rent increase notice letter.
