Anti-Social Behaviour/Nuisance

Tenancy management is broken down into two main areas to help us achieve our service aim. ‘To ensure high-quality tenancy management with a reduction in anti-social behaviour and improved estate management’ The two main areas are Neighbourhood Services and Support Services. Basically, these two areas of service make sure that all tenants follow their tenancy conditions, allow all tenants to peacefully enjoy their home, and make sure that estates stay pleasant and acceptable places to live. Your tenancy agreement outlines behaviour, known as anti-social behaviour that is unacceptable to you, your family or invited visitors. It can include:
  • not looking after your garden;
  • using or allowing the property to be used for any immoral or illegal purposes, including using or supplying illegal drugs or substances;
  • causing annoyance or nuisance to your neighbours by, for example, playing loud music, arguing and slamming doors, unreasonable dog barking and fouling, offensivedrunkenness, and dumping rubbish;
  • harassing other neighbours or any other person in the community by, for example, using or threatening to use violence, using insulting words or behaviour, causing damage or threatening to damage another person’s home or belongings, writing threatening, insulting or abusive graffiti;
  • harassing someone because of their race, colour, ethnic origin, religious or political beliefs;
  • harassing someone because of their sex, sexuality, age or disability; and
  • behaving in an aggressive way towards our employees, board members or agents.

If you experience any of the problems above, contact Support Services on 0800 783 9295. Your problem may be referred to the Neighbourhood Services at some stage. The Neighbourhood Services leaflet 'Neighbours from Hell' provides more information on dealing with antisocial behaviour.

Working in Partnership

Derwentside Homes continue to work in partnership with Durham Constabulary and County Durham Fire and Rescue Service. This is a well developed partnership, which includes joint working initiatives, a Community Safety Operational Plan and regular meetings to discuss and resolve issues within Derwentside.

If there is a problem

If you have a complaint about nuisance or antisocial behaviour, you should try to sort out the matter by discussing it carefully and tactfully with the person causing the nuisance. It is possible that the person does not even realise they, or a member of their family, are causing you a problem.

For further information on the above please contact your local office, telephone us on Tel: 08458 505 600 or email us at customer.services@derwentsidehomes.co.uk or click here to download our leaflet.
